Due to the significant damage brought upon by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, 311 Day was not able to take place in New Orleans in 2006. The event was moved to Memphis, TN, and the 311 Day celebration continued as planned.
The band played a total of 65 songs broken down into three sets over the course of five hours. The length of this show did not surpass any previous records, but had the potential to do so as a number of songs were eliminated from the setlist due to a strict curfew at the Mid-South Coliseum. New Orleans-themed special effects were featured throughout the show, including a Mardi Gras backdrop, purple, yellow, and green confetti, and stilt walkers similar to those who appeared at previous 311 Days in New Orleans. The band even threw Mardi Gras beads out into the crowd at the end of the show.
Highlights of the show included performances of “Down South” (last played in 1991) and “This Too Shall Pass” (with Nick also on bass; last performed in 1993), as well as an eight-song block from the Transistor album.
About half of the recordings below are from the HDNET broadcast which first aired on December 10, 2006. These recordings are marked with an asterisk (*) below because they are very high quality. The rest are from a fan recording and are much quieter/not as crisp. I still have not been able to find recordings of a few of the songs from this 311 Day; if you have any of the missing tracks, please send me an email!!
